1. What is the American dream? How does Gatsby represent the dream? Does the novel praise or condemn Gatsby dream? Has the dream changed since Gatsby’s time?

We believe that the American dream is symbolized by what people want to make it. When the first immigrants came from England in the 1400's they were just looking at a place that they could live freely and follow their own religion
. Since then, the dream has changed a lot. People come to America to fulfill what their ancestors couldn’t, a chance for a new start. There are many ways to show how this dream can be fulfilled but Gatsby shows how they want their American dream to be. Gatsby shows this by living in a very rich family then going to college and then becoming even richer. Gatsby does have a way of hiding his richness. He does this by not living in the most expensive side of town, or in the biggest house or driving the fanciest cars. We would say that the novel praises Gatsby’s dream because he doesn’t try to over indulge in his richness. Sure he does throw big parties but he doesn’t care who comes to the parties.
Gatsby in a way wants to share his American dream with everyone he knows. By throwing these parties he lets every one know what kind of american dream that everyone should stive for in there life.

9. What makes The Great Gatsby a classic novel? Why has it maintained its place in American literature?
The Great Gatsby is a classic novel for its portrayal of a man who has everything, but nothing at the same time. He dreams of love and a simple life yet he can’t seem to find it. Many people simplify the American dream to money, power, and senseless social interaction. The American dream, we believe, is open to change; however the person wishes it to change. While this is true many people get stuck in this dreamworld of America as a pure heaven. Many take it for granted and get crushed by its illusions. This novel takes the idea of the American dream and presents that dream as the young adults of the 1920s accepted it. The Great Gatsby has maintained its place in history because of it's unblinking look into the lives of young Americans living a delusional American dream.

6. What is the meaning of the title? In what way is Gatsby great?
In the simplest term it means that Gatsby is a great man. How he is great isn't entirely obvious however. Throughout his life Gatsby has managed to earn everything he could ever want, except love. Love is the only one of his desires that has eluded him. For the past 5 years Gatsby has been trying to find his way with relationships and the women he still truely loves Daisy. Daisy represents the type of wife that Gatsby would want to have and part of his american dream. Gatsby is great throughout the novel by the way that he tries to make his dream a reality in the novel. The true dream of Gatsbys is when he is at Tom tawdrys party where he tries to fulfill his lifelong dream of winning Daisy's love. Even though he succeeds in doing this he is still eventually shot down by Tom. Gatsby shows that he is great by sticking to what he wants in his life, never giving up on his goals and making them a reality throughout the novel.
